Dumaguete City , Negros Oriental
When Martial Law was proclaimed in 1972, among the first acts of the government was to clamp the Philippine Press. It was not until 1973 that the dictatorship allowed newspapers across the country to re-open. Ely P. Dejaresco (Founder), a journalist in Dumaguete City, was granted a permit to publish a newspaper of general circulation in the province of Negros Oriental. Thus, on June 12, 1973, the NEGROS CHRONICLE swept the streets of Dumaguete City with its maiden issue. Since then, the NEGROS CHRONICLE has published every Sunday, without missing a single issue. In 1995 the NEGROS CHRONICLE became a bi-weekly putting out an additional issue every Wednesday.
In 1979, the NEGROS CHRONICLE branched out to the local broadcasting industry and operated the pioneer stereo multiplex FM station in the province of Negros Oriental. In 1986 the NEGROS CHRONICLE and its radio arm, DYEM-FM was incorporated with the SEC. It now operates under its corporate name: NEGROS BROADCASTING & PUBLISHING CORPORATION. The corporation has blazed the trail in the local media industry in Negros Oriental. It has its own offset printing press and operates fully on desktop publishing.
